ADHD Treatment

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder can be difficult to diagnose and treat in both children and adults.

ADHD is a unique condition in which the brain has difficulty regulating “executive functioning skills” including attention, concentration, effort, memory, impulsivity, etc.

Treatment for ADHD is incredibly personalized. Symptoms present differently in each patient, we focus on learning about each individual patient’s experience and the mosaic of their needs, experiences, and overall health in order to support each patient in an effective and holistic way.

Treatment for ADHD typically involves a combination of lifestyle changes, like sleep hygiene and nutrition, nutraceuticals, botanical medicine, and prescription medication as necessary. Tailored to the needs of each unique patient, treatment protocols vary based on the needs and co-existing conditions of every patient. The focus is on meeting patients with where they are at in their condition and experience - and taking steps together to help patients effectively manage their symptoms and health.

ADHD is most commonly diagnosed in children, largely due to increased awareness surrounding the condition. Common symptoms of ADHD in children include:

  • Impatience

  • Difficulty focusing

  • Emotional instability

  • Fidgeting and restlessness

  • Forgetfulness

  • Self-focused behavior, or an inability to recognize other peoples needs

  • Inability to effectively mange their time

While ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood, many adults have lived with ADHD for years without realizing it. Adults with ADHD can be incredibly high functioning, but still struggle with symptom management and having significant ups-and-downs in their careers and personal life as a result of these symptoms. Common ADHD symptoms in adults include:

  • Difficulty prioritizing

  • Mood swings

  • Disorganization

  • Lack of time-management skills

  • Difficulty focusing

  • Low frustration tolerance

  • Restlessness

  • Difficulty controlling one’s temper

Everyone will identify with some of these symptoms throughout their life. What sets those with ADHD apart is that these symptoms cause ongoing challenges and problems in multiple areas of your life, and can be traced back to childhood.
