So you have foot pain…maybe you’ve been to a Podiatrist and your foot pain diminished some, but hasn’t totally gone away, or perhaps you’ve had foot surgery and are still experiencing foot pain. Your foot pain might feel limiting, like you’re unable to do the activities you love because it’s just too uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I hear these stories of frustration A LOT!
On the flip side, maybe you haven’t had foot pain and your stride is pain free. You say, ‘As long as I wear my (insert shoe brand name here), my feet are fine.’ Yay! I am happy that you you don’t have foot pain, but there are consequences to only wearing one brand of shoe. By doing this, you are locking your feet into a very particular foot bed, and are now somewhat confined in your Zappos shoe shopping experience. We should all be wearing all sorts of shoes, not just one particular brand! Often, foot pain develops over time as a result of shoes: shoes are what lock our feet into particular positions, and over time this locking causes pain. When the bones/joints/tendons/muscles of our feet don’t move as they should, our feet lock and start complaining.
I’ve been teaching Pilates for many years and like the other people that work here at SageMED, I want to see everyone that comes through our doors get the help they need to live happy and healthy lives. To add to my Pilates certifications/qualifications, I’m also a Yamuna Practitioner, who teaches Yamuna Body Rolling (YBR) and Yamuna Foot Fitness (YFF).
What is YFF? It is foot work to build and maintain strong and flexible feet. In YFF, we primarily use Yamuna Foot Wakers (half dome nubbies) and Yamuna Foot Savers (small smooth half domes). The Wakers are used for most common foot issues like: plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma, bunions, and hammer toes. The Savers are for more advanced and detailed work to rebuild healthy foot function.
Some primary reasons why Yamuna work is so effective and what sets it apart from other modalities that have ‘look alike’ products, is the direct bone stimulation and logical order of working with the human body. Yamuna work gets impact out of our bones as well as adds circulation to the bones, thus making the bones more hydrated and stronger, and giving more life and energy to the muscles connected to those bones. It aids in reorganizing the structure in our body by working from the origin to the insertion point of muscles. It’s an extremely comprehensive approach to body sustainability at any stage in our lives.
Let me tell you a story. Some of you met with David Wu, our Physical Therapist that moved to SoCal in March. A few years ago when I was going through my first YFF certification process, he was one of my case studies. At the time, he had Plantar Fasciitis (PF) and with his high fitness level he was pretty frustrated. I taught him how to treat his PF with Yamuna Foot Wakers and after six weeks of homework he was done with his PF and it never returned.
Many people suffer from PF. Patients do the drill of going to the Podiatrist and get the boot and/or injections and it typically goes away but it also typically comes back. Unfortunately, Podiatrist do not profit in teaching patients how to walk correctly. With YFF you will learn her Walking Test and her way of walking to use all the bones in your feet correctly.
Is there a class for this that one can learn more information about how to care for their precious feet? YES!!! Here at SageMED they are offered once a month, typically on the first Wednesday evening of the month from 6:30-8pm. The next offered class is on July 10th (2019 class dates are August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6, and December 4) and the investment is $48.40. All the equipment is provided for you. To register all you need to do is email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) to save space in class. It’s a super impactful class! You will notice change in your feet after your first class. It is up to you to continue your good work on YFF tools to improve your feet. If you forget, come back to class, or set up a private session with me and we’ll go over all the specifics that need to be addressed.
I hope to see you in class and I wish you happy feet!
