Now we have a glimpse at one of the mechanisms - farm dust!
In mice, dust from dairy farms switches on an enzyme found the lungs that keeps the immune system from overreacting to common allergens.
Other possible mechanisms of the Farm Effect include contact with saprophyte microbes in cowsheds and drinking raw milk.
